One book, A couple schools
On
Tuesday, March 18th six Hester students attended One Book, A Couple of Schools:
Wonder Workshop at West Leyden High School. A group of over one hundred
students from middle schools and high schools in the area all came together to
celebrate the novel "Wonder" by R.J. Palacio. One Book, and a Couple
of Schools is an annual event where students from the area read the same book
and come together to discuss it. The event keeps evolving and this year it was
a day long workshop. Hester students collaborated with others and wrote
original poetry, wrote scripts for talk show scenes, and created alternative
book covers at the workshop. At the end, all of our Hester students shared
their work with the group. It was a great event and Hester looks forward to
participating it in the future.
Students
who attended: JuVontae S., Sashenka S., Nancy T., Dannalee M.,
Jenna L., Jael R.
HJH Concert Band performs at Northwestern University
Congratulations
to the Hester Concert Band for their terrific performance at Northwestern
University. These musicians really enjoyed playing on the stage at
Pick-Staiger, which is the main concert venue for NU's Bienen School of Music.
Dan Farris, Northwestern assistant band director and director of the
Wildcat Marching Band, worked with the students after their performance.
GREAT WORK INSTRUMENTAL WILDCATS!

Lady Wildcat Basketball Conference Tourney 2nd place
The 8th
Grade Lady Wildcats did not disappoint Wednesday night. Though they came in
2nd place by only two points, they played their hearts out until the very
last second. Coach Maloni is so proud of you all, and if she could, she
would keep coaching you from year to year. For the first time, there
was no drama, just basketball. Thank you for a season to remember! The
ROAR players of the SEASON are Annissa Lemon, Erika Arroyo, Serena
Caraballo, Angie Perez, Adreana Munoz, Sara Cole, Aby Salgado, Yulissa Perez,
Jordan Crane and Julia Uy. The team would also like to thank the staff
and students who were there last night and supported us this season. Together,
we attack!
